Friday vibes: November 4

This past weekend was a whirlwind. It was great to be back in New York and see two of our best friends get married. It’s times like this I’m thankful we’re only a 1.5 hr plane ride away from home. But I also learned a couple things, like I’m too old to share a hotel room with anyone other than MPR, and too many nights in a row with less than eight hours of sleep makes me ill. I guess this is what almost-30 feels like.

This week was a lot of catching up on sleep, and this weekend will be lots of snuggling because Rufio is going for his knee surgery on Tuesday. I’m sure I’ll be a wreck the entire day, so all thoughts and prayers are welcome! Let’s hope for a speedy recovery.

Here’s what caught my eye this past week:

1. 8 Women With Similar Salaries Spend Them VERY Differently from Refinery29: I love reading other people’s money diaries because it gives me a sense of what I’m doing well and what I could work on. This one is especially great because it’s all women in their 20s with salaries similar to mine. Definitely an interesting read.
2. You’re Not Meant To Do What You Love. You’re Meant To Do What You’re Good At. This is one of those articles where the whole time I was reading it, I kept saying, “yes. yes. yes.” I think it’s a great read for everyone, but especially for kids trying to choose a college major. Here’s a nugget: “We’re doing people an incredible disservice by telling them they should seek, and pursue, what they love. People usually can’t differentiate what they really love and what they love the idea of.”
3. Burnout Is Real…But It Doesn’t Feel The Way You Think It Would: This is another great article from Refinery29. This author describes exactly how I felt before I decided to shift my priorities and slow down for once. I’m all for working hard to accomplish goals, but once in awhile you need to take a moment to enjoy the view.
4. The Top 5 Regrets of Midlife Professionals: For some reason I really enjoy reading articles about regrets. I suppose it’s because I’m trying to avoid it. This was a good read that also helps you put things into perspective.
5. Raven Address Book from Rifle Paper Co.: I’m probably the only millennial that prefers a paper address book to electronic storage. I hate having to open up my wedding address excel doc every time I want to send someone a letter. It’s so much easier to flip to it in an address book (at least to me). Plus, this one is incredibly pretty.

Is it Thanksgiving break yet? I could use a 4-day weekend right about now.
