I’ve been creating content on the Internet since the golden age of fashion blogs and the PR girl lifestyle (the OG influencers). I documented everything from first jobs and wedding planning to exploring new cities and living the #AgencyLife dream. Then I took a brief break because I was focused on creating, well, tiny humans. But lately I’ve been feeling a strong pull back to the keyboard. Sure, all the cool kids may be on Substack and TikTok, but I think personal blogs are poised for a comeback.
Like so many others, I figured out the hard way that social media was not a wellspring of inspiration, but actually a drain on my creative energy. Scrolling feeds didn’t feed my soul. And I never found the community platforms promised—just a bunch of people trying to sell me stuff, from skincare to sleep training.
So I’ve been offloading apps and returning to the analog hobbies of my youth, letting them stoke my creative fire. I’ve replaced consuming with reading, journaling, and embroidery, to name a few; you could say I’m well on my way to becoming the accomplished woman Mr. Darcy described.
After committing to this shift long term, I’ve muted the disruptive chatter in my head and feel more grateful, content, and connected to my true self.
If you’re interested to see how this whole digital minimalism movement can work for a working parent, or if you’re looking for a space to connect outside of algorithms, you’re in the right place. Pull up a chair and a hot cup of tea, and let’s chat.
